More Than

The other day, the following verse was in my morning devotions. Romans 8:37 “No in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” For whatever reason, two words in this verse struck me in a way they never have before. In fact, I have probably read this verse a gazillion times and not even really noticed them. So, here is the verse again with these crucial words highlighted. “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Well, I don’t know about you but to me this was such an aha moment! You know how in stories and movies where the good guy finally triumphs over the bad guy? And we think yahoo and that’s the end? Except according to these two little words, “more than”, it is not even close to the end. We are not just conquerors, we are more than conquerors. Conquerors Plus! Because of Christ’s sacrifice for us, death and sin are defeated. And as a result, we are everything that comes after that. We are all the things that God has planned for us to be, like in the verse in Jeremiah where God says, “ I know the plans I have for you…”

So, what does this mean for me in terms of grief? Because death is overcome for both Mikael and I, who belong to the Lord, I will see him again. But furthermore, during the waiting, God has so many plans for me and what he wants me to do and what he wants me to be. God, in his love, has made me more than my grief, more than my sorrow, more than my broken heart. And God has made you more than too!
