Time
A friend of mine gifted me with a Can full of uplifting messages. The label on the can is "Grieving - 365 messages to soothe my soul". I pick out a message to read each day. The message I picked out today said, "If the future seems overwhelming, remember that it comes one moment at a time." Interestingly enough, this is one of the topics covered in the devotional book I am currently writing (I'm almost done). The concept of time changed quite drastically for me when Mikael died and I entered the After. I believe this is true for all who have suffered great loss.
It's not so much that the anticipation of events in the future is overwhelming, although sometimes it is, it is more that time itself is overwhelming. The length of time between now and someday when I will see my son again becomes more than my mind can contemplate. My soul can become engulfed in the "how long?"
And so, this message today is quite timely! (ha! ha! see what I did there?!) I know that I am definitely learning to take life this way; one moment at a time. Focusing on just today and what God wants me to do on this day. By doing that, I am more able to find the joy in the moments and less likely to feel overcome. As Jesus told us in Matthew 6: 25-34, God knows our needs and if he provides for the birds in the air and the plants in the field, how much more will he provide for our needs because he loves us.
