Resilience

Last night I lay awake listening to the deluge of rain pouring down. I was picturing all of the poor flowers in my garden being pummeled (for the gazillionth time) by this relentless torrent of water. And yet, this morning when I looked out the window with my coffee in hand, all of them were standing up, straight, tall and strong. I got to thinking how God made each of them different in terms of size, shape and colour but the same in terms of resilience. He created each of these flowers to be able to withstand the repeated rainstorms that we have been getting this summer. In the same way, I know that God created us to be resilient, with his help and presence in our lives. He has provided us with his spirit to lift us to stand upright, just like the flowers in my garden. On this journey of grief that I am on, there are two realities. There is the relentless pounding of the rain that crushes me and there is the morning sun that lifts me up and sets me on my feet. God is always here, walking me through every step, every tear, every smile, everything.
